Voluntary Blood Donors are Everyday Heros - WHO
The Country Director of CDC/Uganda Dr Kevin Mills McNeill, The Minister of Sate for Health Dr Richard Nduhura and the WHO Representative Dr Joaquim Saweka opening the Regional Blood Bank in Mbarara(right) built with assistance from the USA Government. The Minister of State for Health (General Duties) Honourable Richard Nduhura has called for solidarity in blood donation so that people who need blood in emergencies can easily access it. The minister was speaking during the commemoration of World Blood Donor’s Day 2009, and opening to the Regional Blood Bank held in Mbarara town on Sunday.

“The principle of solidarity is very true in blood donations. At one time you, a family member or a friend may also need blood. So let us join hand to ensure availability of this precious commodity,” he said. The minister thanked the United States Government for funding the construction of the modern facility and challenged the staff of Uganda Blood Transfusion Services to use it efficiently for benefit of all the people in the region.
